Why Giving Back Is Important to the Commercial Construction Business

Giving back to the local community is vital to any business; however, in the commercial construction industry it is a great way to fulfill a corporate social responsibility, while also building new relationships and connections that can impact future business.

At Leon Williams Contractors we believe in the importance of giving back to the East Tennessee region.  As general contractors, we know that giving back makes a huge impact in the community and has a positive effect on new business for the company.

In 2012, we had the honor of joining a 4,000-member crew to help build a new house for Daniel and Mandy Watson of the Restoration House in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The build was part of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” and being part of the experience was incredible.  This experience show our partnership with the community and local industry.

In December 2013, we also had an opportunity to help Foothills Church in Maryville, Tennessee, when a truck crashed into the side of the church on December 20, 2013, just two days before the church’s Christmas services. We conducted emergency repairs in order for services to proceed that weekend, then began working on a plan for reconstruction and renovations. Construction began in mid-February, and was completed on April 7, 2014, nearly two weeks ahead of Easter services.

These are just two of the many examples of giving back.  Being involved in the East Tennessee region has helped us build a positive reputation in the community, as well as, impact business in a positive way.  And, giving of services is not the only way to support the community.  Serving in a leadership role on a board or committee, and providing expertise in business, construction, and leadership can also have a positive impact.  It’s a great way to build key relationships with the community and businesses as a whole.
